Description

Arts and Health for Social Change: A Live Well Make Art event
Tuesday 5th March 2019, 1 – 4.45pm
Event Space, HOME, Manchester M15 4FN

Art is not a mirror held up to reality but a hammer with which to shape it.” Bertolt Brecht

Live Well Make Art (LWMA) is an informal network of arts professionals and activists, health professionals and activists, academics and people who care passionately about the health of Greater Manchester. We have been working together for three years as a social movement. We want a healthier Greater Manchester, where all its people can share the benefits of engaging in and enjoying the arts and creative activities with each other and we want to make our streets, neighbourhoods and communities better places to live.

On March 5th, at HOME, we will be holding the last Live Well Make Art event in the popular series funded through Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Great Places initiative and will explore how the arts can raise awareness, campaign, provoke, inspire and collaborate with all those who care about health, to help make change happen.

Speakers will include the Rt Hon. Lord Howarth of Newport (Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Arts, Health and Wellbeing), Cllr Rahman (Executive Member for Culture, Leisure, Schools and Youth Strategy at Manchester City Council), Louise Brady (Nurse Lead Primary & Community Care for Greater Manchester Health & Social Care Partnership), Mark Prest (Portraits of Recovery), Cara Looij (in(sane) and Andrew Westle (LGBTIQ researcher and artist), and we’ll be finding out what young people have to say about arts and health in Greater Manchester. There will also be an opportunity to hear from people who have been given LWMA micro-grants awards.

This is an opportunity to:

- Learn from local and national case studies
- Share your knowledge and expertise with others
- Consider innovative ways of making a difference and new possibilities for collaboration
- Find out more about LWMA’s Great Places programme

We expect very high demand for the limited places available for this event, so will only be able to offer a maximum of 2 places for any organisation. There will be a waiting list, so we will also be asking attendees to let us know if they are not able to come for any reason.

PLEASE BOOK EARLY AS PLACES ARE VERY LIMITED

The event is free to attend, and lunch is provided.
