Arts & Creative Industry Support Surgery

Bolton Council presents its fifth annual programme to support Bolton-based businesses, social enterprises and charities from the arts and creative industries sector, to survive and develop during these difficult economic times.
Our programme for 2014 includes free workshops and a series of one-to-one surgery days, details of which can be found in 'Other Events' below.
On 27th February and 20th March, MMM Funding Solutions will be providing a Surgery for Bolton based businesses, social enterprises, charities and voluntary/community organisations in the arts & creative industries sector.
The Surgeries follow on from a workshop programme to support arts and creative industry organisations to develop a business case and write proposals for funders, lenders and commissioners. More information about the workshop programme is provded in 'Other Events' below.
Who is Providing this Service?
Bolton Council's 'Business Bolton' department has commissioned MMM Funding Solutions to deliver these surgeries.
The surgeries will be delivered by the Managing Director of MMM Funding Solutions (Mari Martin-Matthews) who specialises in supporting organisations to develop a robust business case for support from grant funders, public bodies / commissioners and in supporting organisations to develop projects, programmes and organisational capacity.
Mari has 15 years’ experience of securing and managing grant funding at a senior level (working as the Head of Strategic Resources at Bolton Council) and has secured over £100m in grants over the past ten years from a range of sources, with close to a 100% success rate.
Mari has considerable experience of working with the public, private and voluntary and community sectors and her experience gives her a unique understanding of what funders, lenders and commissioners expect.
'Securing Grants, Loans, Contracts & SLAs: Building a Business Case for Funders, Lenders & Commissioners'
10th February | 11th March, The Bolton Hub
This workshop is targeted at organisations based in Bolton. The workshop will help you to develop a robust business case in order to secure grant funding; secure a loan or investment; sell products or services to the public/private sectors; and respond to tendering opportunities.
The workshop will focus on helping you to:
- Learn how to diversify your income streams;
- Understand what funders / lenders / commissioners want to hear;
- Define what you deliver;
- Define your Unique Selling Points;
- Review your business plan / vision;
- Define your aims & objectives;
- Review previous achievements;
- Measure and demonstrate your impact;
- Develop a business case for support.
‘How to Write a Winning Funding Bid / Tender / Proposal’
14th February | 14th March, The Bolton Hub
This workshop is targeted at organisations based in Bolton. The workshop will provide general tips to help you to develop your bid writing skills and will also support organisations to:
- Identify grants, loans and tendering opportunities for arts and creative industries
- Define your project
- Define your aims, objectives, outputs and outcomes
- Build and demonstrate your evidence of need
- Develop collaborations / partnerships to strengthen your proposal
- Demonstrate your track record
- Ensure you have effective monitoring, evaluation and management arrangements
- Develop effective publicity, marketing & engagement activities
Surgeries will be held at the Bolton Hub, Bold Street, Bolton, BL1 1LS. There are a range of conveniently located car parks at the nearby Railway Triangle off Johnson Street (BL1 1NX).
The Hub is also convenient for both rail and bus links and is about a 5 minute walk from each.
