Whether you want to achieve promotion, develop or refresh mathematical skills or simply improve your Continuing Professional Development (CPD), the GSS Statistical Capability Team within the Learning Academy will support you in achieving this with our joint collaboration with Coleg Gwent. We understand how important it is to balance learning around other things in your life which is why we strive to make studying an enjoyable, rewarding and worthwhile experience for all staff.
Would you like to understand how the worlds of economics and Official Statistics overlap? Would you like to learn how to interpret your statistics in an economical context then AS Level Economics (WJEC accredited) is for you.
The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic understanding of how markets and the economy work.
It introduces the key concepts of microeconomics and macroeconomics, for example, the demand and supply in both individual markets and the whole economy.
The course covers the following topics:
- scarcity and choice
- demand and supply in product markets
- demand and supply in labour markets
- resource allocation
- market failure
- macroeconomic theory
- macroeconomic objectives
- policy instruments
- international trade
Attainment of this qualification provides a stepping stone for those seeking to progress to A level Economics.
1 Year 3.5 hours per week, Sept to May - Thursdays 09.00 - 12.30 (term time only)
Pre-requisite GCSE or O Level in English and Mathematics at grade C or above.
Before enrolling staff are asked to speak to their line manager to gain approval. It should be noted that this is not only a commitment for a few hours a week in a classroom, but will also be expected to spend several hours studying at home.
