Course Overview

ACS is delighted to launch our brand-new training suite in Kinning Park, Glasgow with a combined Asbestos Awareness (Cat A) and Duty to Manage training day. Delivered face to face by experienced ACS trainer, this one-day programme gives delegates both essential knowledge of asbestos and the legal duties for managing asbestos safely.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for:

  • Workers in refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades where asbestos-containing materials may be present.
  • Supervisors and managers who influence or oversee such work.
  • Duty holders, building owners, landlords, facilities and maintenance managers, appointed persons and managing agents responsible for asbestos compliance under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Course Structure (One Full Day)

Session 1 (approx. 3 hours): UKATA Asbestos Awareness (Cat A)

  • Properties and health effects of asbestos.
  • Types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos in buildings.
  • How to avoid the risk of exposure.
  • Emergency procedures for uncontrolled release.
  • Real vs. perceived risks of asbestos.
  • Assessment and certification.

Session 2 (approx. 4 hours): UKATA Duty to Manage Asbestos

  • Overview of Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
  • The legal responsibilities of duty holders.
  • Developing asbestos management plans.
  • Record keeping and monitoring.
  • Roles of appointed persons and assistants.
  • Practical steps to ensure compliance and protect building users.

Certification

  • Asbestos Awareness (Cat A): All delegates receive a UKATA certificate valid for 12 months.
  • Duty to Manage: Delegates must hold a valid UKATA Asbestos Awareness (Cat A) certificate passed within the last 6 months to attend this session. Please provide your certificate in advance to secure your place (unless you will attend the first Cat A session)


Delegate numbers are limited by UKATA to 15 people per course to maximise learning. Coffee/Tea and biscuits included.
