Event description
Ashdown PSHE Solution Hub Day - Training for East Sussex schools only

About this Event

East Sussex Public Health have commissioned Educator Solutions to deliver a PSHE Solution programme of support to all schools within East Sussex. The aim of the programme is to ensure schools are positioned to meet the requirements of the new statutory Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education guidance (RSHE).

An exciting element of the ESCC PSHE Solution programme is to deliver a day of CPD, focused on priority areas of development for your locality. These have been identified as follows:

Effective parental engagement:

• Identify approaches that will maximise parental attendance at RSHE events.

• Anticipate and consider how to overcome parental anxieties and contentious responses to RSHE.

• Confidently facilitate an effective parental engagement session on RSHE, using a provided PowerPoint.

• Provide guidance and information to parents to support RSHE in the home.

• Provision of a ppt and facilitator guide to enable PSHE Leads to facilitate RSHE parent sessions in their individual school/s.

Train the Teacher:

• Provision of a ppt and facilitator guide to enable PSHE Leads to run a staff CPD inset session in their individual school/s.

Assessment and monitoring the impact

• Understand why RSHE assessment is important in maintaining a needs-led, age and stage appropriate approach to RSHE.

• Identify a range of implicit assessment strategies that provide both formative and summative assessment of pupil knowledge, values and skills.

• Be able to use assessment to provide evidence of impact.

Naming body parts and teaching about consensual touch in KS1

• Increase confidence to use and teach correct scientific terms to describe the main external parts of the body in an age-appropriate way.

• Teach sensitively to pupils about permission seeking and giving, and the concept of personal privacy.

• Explicitly teach the features of healthy relationships, what family means and who the people are who can support them.

The PSHE Hub training day will also provide an opportunity to network and practice share with local schools.
