Ashwell Prison, formerly known as HM Prison Ashwell was a Category C men's prison in the county of Rutland, England. The site of the former Ashwell Prison is located about two miles south from the centre of the village of Ashwell. The prison is vast with many investigation areas making it one of our most interesting haunted locations. Ghost hunts here have given us so much in the way of paranormal activity, particularly in one of the main blocks where objects were seen to be moving on their own. It is no wonder that we keep going back for more.
Ashwell prison closed in 2011 and Rutland County Council acquired it from the Ministry of Justice in early 2013 and it is now popular for other activities such as ghost hunting. The location is vast with so many haunted areas to work in.
