As Thailand navigates a period of acute political instability and rising tensions along its border with Cambodia, Mark Gooding OBE, British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, will deliver an exclusive, off-the-record briefing at Asia House on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.
The Ambassador’s remarks will come at a critical time for the region. Ongoing political uncertainty following leadership shifts has raised questions about Thailand’s domestic trajectory, while renewed clashes along the Cambodian border have heightened concerns over regional security. At the same time, Thailand is positioning itself as a rising economic force, with strong potential in digital innovation, green technology, and high-value manufacturing.
Drawing on over two decades of diplomatic experience, Ambassador Gooding will offer insights into how the UK is responding to Thailand’s evolving landscape - balancing strategic interests, economic engagement, and regional stability. He will also examine the role of the UK’s Indo-Pacific strategy in strengthening bilateral ties amid growing geopolitical complexity.
Ambassador Gooding has served in Thailand since 2021 and has played a central role in shaping UK policy on both Asia and Europe.
The session will be moderated by Michael Lawrence OBE, Chief Executive of Asia House.
