Asian Woman Festival 2020 - Rescheduling Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Event Information
Description
The Asian Woman Festival team has been closely monitoring updates on the spread of coronavirus COVID-19.
Like many other event organisers, the health and safety of our visitors, exhibitors and staff is always our number one priority.
We have made the decision to reschedule our 2020 Festival which was due to take place on 4th April.
At Asian Woman Festival, we're in the job of empowering women to be activists of their own future. We do this through using culture, conversation and art to smash stereotypes, patriarchy and stigmas Asian women are often judged by.
Building on the success of hosting the UK’s first-ever Asian Woman Festival in March 2019, where over 1000 people came together across the UK and internationally - we’re delighted to share the details of our 2020 festival.
On Saturday 4 April 2020, we’re coming back bigger and better to smash even more stereotypes and stigmas to empower and celebrate Asian Women.
The theme for the Asian Woman Festival 2020 is 'Honour'. The culture of honour, or izzat, within the south Asian community, prevents us from talking about the topics we really need to be highlighting and addressing. Join us as we explore the concept of honour and shame and how for many generations it’s predominately impinged on girls and women.
Main stage panel talks:
- Why are we so obsessed with marriage?
A discussion on our fixation with marriage, being divorced and the huge cost of Asian weddings.
- Honour and the modern woman
What does honour really mean in this day and age to modern Asian women and how do we honour ourselves?
- Let's talk about Mental Health
An exploration on why, as a community, there is so much stigma surrounding an issue which affects us so deeply.
-
Boundaries vs Bullsh*t
How do we set healthy boundaries to look after ourselves in an often intrusive culture?
Doors will open at 10 am for you to browse the stalls in our festival bazaar before our first mainstage talk from 11 am. The festival will close at 4.30 pm.
Our festival creates an open dialogue for Asian Women to explore and express their views in a safe space. If you’re starved of the community you crave or just want to be generally inspired by other women, we’ve got an event for you, jam-packed full of inspiring, like-minded and talented Asian Women. Check out the highlights from our last festival here.
Further information will be updated on Eventbrite and our website in due course. If you wish to be part of the festival as a stallholder click here to apply.

More Information

New for 2020!
- Bring your Bibi ticket (Or Nani / Dhadi)
We love grandmothers! So much so, we've dedicated a special ticket and area for them. Enjoy a discounted rate for you and your granny.
- Group ticket
Whether you want to bring your family or colleagues, a group of 10 people can enjoy a discounted rate when buying as a group. The 'group manager' can share a link to the rest of the group members to complete their own registration details, saving you all the hassle of collating everyone's info (phew!)
- Pay-it-forward ticket
We want to ensure that all members of our community are able to access the Asian Woman Festival and we get approached by a number of groups looking for complimentary tickets for their members.
For this reason, we are operating a Pay-It-Forward ticket system, giving the option for those purchasing tickets to buy an additional ticket for a member of our community who would otherwise be restricted from participating due to financial barriers. Suggested donation is £10, and we'll match it to help more people experience the Asian Woman Festival.
