ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
Overview
ASIST is a two-day, evidence-based suicide intervention course developed and overseen by LivingWorks, which has led global suicide prevention initiatives for over 30 years. This training is renowned for being practical, grounding, and genuinely transformative, empowering individuals to confidently step in and support someone who may be contemplating suicide.
The two days run consecutively, with plenty of breaks and space to absorb the learning. The course combines PowerPoint guidance, video-led scenarios, and practical practice simulations so you can develop real, usable skills in a supportive environment.
Each participant receives a workbook, Z-card, stickers, and a certificate upon completion. You’ll be supported throughout by two experienced ASIST trainers, and where possible, a third ASIST-qualified team member who will be available for additional support and wellbeing.
ASIST doesn’t just teach you what to do; it provides a structure, a language, and a sense of calm confidence that can genuinely make a difference to someone in their darkest moments.
Delivered by Re-Align Futures, supported by Spring North and funded by Blackburn with Darwen Council, this course is fully funded for anyone who lives, works, volunteers or studies in the borough. While your place is funded, the training itself incurs a genuine delivery cost similar to ASIST programmes across the UK, which range from £280 to £600 per person.
To help protect this funding and ensure places are allocated fairly, a £60 late cancellation or non-attendance fee may be charged. If you find you cannot attend within two weeks of the course, please arrange for a colleague or friend to take your place, or contact us as early as possible so the place can be reallocated.
