ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training)

This is a two day course held on 8th and 9th August 2017. Please note ASIST starts at 9am
The course will benefit anyone coming into contact with individuals who may be at risk of suicide.
The aims of the course
The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training course is a nationally recognised course designed to help people learn how to recognise the signs of suicidal thoughts and how to intervene to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.The course is designed to help all in communities to become more willing, ready and able to help persons at risk of suicide.
The objectives of the course
Participants will learn how to:
- Identify cues indicating risk of suicide
- Discuss suicide with a person at risk
- Develop the skills to intervene with that person
- Provide ‘suicide first aid’.
Simon Miller is the Choose Life Development Worker in Midlothian and works as part of Health in Mind's community services across Midlothian. Simon has many years of experience of working in suicide prevention and mental health improvement. Simon will be co-delivering the course with a colleague.
Terms and conditions
This course is at the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, which is fully accessible. The course includes a light lunch of soup and pasta and teas, coffee throughout the day. If you have specific dietry requirements please contact us.

If you need to cancel your booking and give more than two weeks’ notice, we will refund your payment in full. If you cancel with less than two weeks’ notice, we will refund 50% of your fee.
