About this Event

Baby Week Leeds is back celebrating 5 years of Baby Week from the 9 – 15th November 2020!

Baby Week Leeds is an early years initiative helping to bring and celebrate services from across the sector together for one week and celebrate all things BABIES!

This event takes place annually at Baby Week Leeds with many stalls. Due to Covid-19, we will be LIVE on zoom for the 'ask the experts' webinar where you will have the chance to ask the Leeds doctors, midwives and many other health and wellbeing professionals any questions which you might have about maternity services. Hear about what we have been doing to improve maternity services and to help families get the best start in life. Tell us about your experiences and help to shape future plans.

Full agenda and list of experts to be added soon.

The theme for this year is ‘Stay Safe, Stay Connected’! To mark 5 years, Baby Week will focus on five of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: good health and well-being, reduced inequality, sustainable cities and communities, climate action and no poverty.

Background:

Baby Week, an adaptation from Semana do Bebe in Brazil (UNICEF 2010), is an early years initiative raising the awareness of the critical growth stages of a child’s life both mentally and physically. It launched for the first time in Leeds 2016 and was the first of its kind in the UK. Due to the impact of COVID-19, this year will look a little different, with many more digital resources and online events available.

During the week, citywide services promoted and celebrated include maternity, early years, public health, children and families, NHS as well as organisations from the private and voluntary sector. Last year saw the launch of Facemums – a Facebook group for new mums supported by Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Previously we helped launch a free new app ‘50 things to do before 5’: an interactive app which families can use as a supportive learning resource for their children under five years old available to download on app and play store. Prior to this, we supported partnerships and connections to form between Leeds Teaching Hospitals and children centres with the baby box scheme and have supported the promotion of the best start plan.

The idea originated from Brazil known as Semana Do Bebe (Baby Week Brazil), which is supported by UNICEF and has been successfully growing for 20 years. Working with Child Friendly Leeds, NHS Leeds, and all sectors, Baby Week launched in 2016 and Leeds was the first UK city to replicate a model to celebrate, raise awareness and bring sectors together. Since then we have been sharing best practice across the country and internationally to help promote the best start.
