ASPIRE: Employer evening discussion on older workers and social partnershi...
Event Information
Description
We would like to invite employers in Hull and the Humber Region to a discussion workshop on ageing workplaces. We would like to get your views on how employers can prepare for changing age demographics, reconcile the interests of younger and older workers, and create a dialogue with workers on their expectations for their careers moving forward.
We would also like to share with you examples of good active ageing practices which have emerged from our European Commission project.
The event will be held at the University of Hull South East of Asia Museum, located in the Wilberforce Building on the Hull Campus. A catered buffet will be provided.
This workshop is part of the ASPIRE project, funded by the European Commission, which seeks to work with employers and employee representatives in developing innovative approaches to active ageing. In particular, it is trying to give union reps and employers the information and “tools” to understand and put appropriate measures in place.
The focus of the research will be on activities of employers, trade unions and other stakeholders to:
• develop, pilot and embed human resource management (HRM) interventions which support older workers
• reconcile competing intergenerational interests
• investigate ways in which social partners are shifting from an early retirement toward active ageing orientation.
Topics for discussion
Issues we would like to explore in the workshop include:
- How to keep older employees motivated and engaged in work
- The fostering of intergenerational work teams
- How to support career progression for employees of all ages
- How resilience can be promoted within the context of change
- The role of managers in supporting older workers in managing extended working life
- How employees have a say in their careers and work environments
The workshop will be run by Professor Matt Flynn and Dr Chris Ball of the Centre for Research into the Older Workforce. Any questions or request for further information can be directed to Matt at m.c.flynn@hull.ac.uk
Parking will be made available.
