The day is full of practical activities to help you understand more about midwifery and the role of the midwife.

This session is delivered by a qualified Midwife and expereinced Doula.

It has been written to enhance your learning and to give you some awareness and understanding of the practical elements of Midwifery - so there is lots that you will have a go at doing. This can session can support your application to midwifery as well enhance you knowledge and skills ahead of starting your degree.

We will be role paying also and we ask you to be willing to take part.

We will be providing aprons, gloves, masks and hand sanistiser.

The session will cover:

* Core Principles for the role of the midwife.

* Pregnancy and Birth observations/discussions and delivery of baby - doppler, palpation, pinard, fundal measurement and vaginal examination.

* Clinical Assessment and observations for Antenatal and Postnatal - Blood pressure, urine, pulse, respiration, temps , oxygen and record keeping.

* Real Live Placenta assessment

* Newborn Assessment linking to NIPE

* Alcohol Misuse Assessment Practical

* Supporting Active Water Birth

* Self-Care - Compassionate Care

* Becoming a Student Midwife

There will be an hour for Lunch and Networking 12.45pm to 1.45pm

Session aims to finish for 5.30pm.

Delegates encouraged to bring own stethoscope if you wish - if you have one.

Each delegate will receive a certificate of completion.

Please note this is a taster session. Handouts will be provided if required. Bringing a notebook is advisable for your own notes.

There will be refreshements provided throughout the day, and each delegate is to bring their own lunch. There is an asda near by.

There is parking on site and around the area on local roads.

The nearest train stations are Birmingham International - then a short Taxi approximately £6. Or Marston Green Train Station - Short Taxi £4.
