About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours

This course will provide AHPs and Nurses with a range of knowledge and skills, to assess and treat a person who has primarily presented to urgent and emergency care settings with dizziness or balance problems.

Learners will already have a basic understanding of the neurological system, and will be looking to develop their knowledge further, and to confidently assess and manage the person experiencing dizziness or acute balance impairment.

The course will cover the following areas of assessment:

· Types of dizziness and risk factors.

· How blood pressure is controlled and the effect of postural changes on blood pressure.

· Overview of the vestibular system, and assessment of hearing, vision and proprioception.

· Assessment and treatment of vertigo including the Dix Hallpike Test, Epley manoeuvre, and Brandt-Daroff exercises.

· Principles and common exercises for vestibular rehabilitation.

The course will include both a revision of relevant anatomy and physiology, and demonstration and opportunity to practice a range of assessment skills that can be used in urgent and emergency care clinical practice with minimal resource and time.

A range of learning activities will be used to meet each individual learners’ preferred learning styles, and support integration into their clinical practice. There will be opportunity to practice skills learnt during the day.

Frequently asked questions

Is there any parking at the venue?

Unfortunately no parking. However there is securing cycle storage and showers to use if you wish to cycle to the venue. Alternatively there are a number of bus, railway and underground routes close by.

Will refreshments be provided?

Yes drinks and biscuits will be available throughout the day. There is also a small self-service snack station on site. Lunch is not provided, there are some places to eat out locally but otherwise there is limited options so I would recommend bringing lunch. There is a microwave available at venue.

I can't get to the venue for 9am, or I need to leave before 4.30pm, can I still come?

Yes that is fine. Although the course starts at 9am, the main teaching will start about 9.30am. I hope to be finished by 4pm but have booked the room until 4.30pm should we run over or if learners wish to stay and finish any discussion or practice. But if you need to leave earlier then thats fine.

I can't make the date or get to the venue, will you be holding more courses?

Yes I plan to arrange more courses in the future if there is enough interest. Please do let me know that you are interested and I will look at trying to organise a course that's more convenient for you. If I do arrange something I will also give a discount code for you and up to 3 others!

If I am unable to attend the event, am I able to get a refund?

Yes, I can offer a full refund up to 7 days prior to the event. If within 7 days of the event I will offer a 50% refund unless I am able to fill your place in which I will offer 100% refund.
