Description

Assessment in Practice – Developing Evidence to guide and support student achievement

Refreshments from 4pm, with the main event 4.30pm – 6pm

Assessment is an important part of any education system. Without assessment, we cannot be sure that students are learning anything, because, as many countries have found, the amount of time students spend in school is a poor guide to how much they have actually learned (Pritchett, 2013, quoted in Wiliam, 2017, p1). However, assessment as a process can be unpopular as it can be used to hold teachers to account, it can be stressful for the pupils and it can take valuable time away from teaching and learning. Assessment is also always going to be an imperfect tool as it can only capture a narrow element of student achievement.

However, schools and teachers have been working hard to overcome the limitations of current assessment practices and make it work for all stakeholders. The launch event of the University of Winchester CCT network will focus on assessment, looking at the issues, the evidence and the practice of local schools and teachers. This will be a fantastic opportunity to network with local colleagues and learn from cutting edge research highlighted in ‘Impact’ (the journal of the CCT) and innovative assessment practices which are improving the outcomes for local children.

Everyone is welcome to attend this FREE event. You do not need to be a member of the Chartered College of Teachers to come. For more information about the event, please email Dr. Louise Pagden on louise.pagden@winchester.ac.uk
