Are you currently using technology for assessment in the mathematical sciences or wish to learn more about methods to incorporate into your own teaching?

This free event, hosted by the Statistics and Data Analytics Education group at the University of Glasgow and organised as part of the IMA & RSS Mathematical Sciences Teaching and Learning Workshop Series aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from the mathematical sciences to discuss key issues about assessments and show/promote conditions in which deeper approaches to learning will flourish.

The workshop will consist of a series of keynote talks and demonstrations on the use of digital assessment approaches in the mathematical sciences. This will include topics such as:

Creating online assessment integrating mathematics with STACK
Assessing first year statistics students using e-tests and an end of module project week - Dr Iain Weir UWE Bristol
Formative and summative assessment of peer review tasks using AROPA
Experiences with coding assessments using auto-grading and peer assessment
Insights into running an online distance learning masters

There will also be two sessions taking place during the day that will focus on a series of lightning talks and related round table discussions offered by attendees at the workshop, who would like to share their experiences or ideas related to digital assessment approaches.

Attendees are invited to propose a short talk in the following areas:

The role of peer review assessment in mathematical sciences
Creating assessments for programming courses online
Constructing, reviewing and marking e-assessments
Open session - propose a topic of your choice!

We encourage all attendees to offer a short talk in our lightning talk sessions, or a general discussion on an idea you would like to share. This can be on any topic relating to strategies in assessment for the mathematical sciences. These talks can be as general as you wish and we mainly wish to encourage active discussion between everyone attending the event.

Once you confirm your attendance at the event, you will be provided with the option to provide a proposal for a short talk. We will not be able to guarantee that every proposal will be accepted, and will contact you in due course to confirm whether your proposal has been accepted.

This workshop will operate as both an in-person and online event. Online attendees will only have access to the keynote talks. Attendance in-person is free but numbers are limited. Therefore we recommend registering for the event as early as possible.
