Following two academic years of uncertainty and alternative arrangements for teaching and learning, the conversation regarding testing and assessment has become increasingly important.

In this time, schools have had to redefine ways to assess knowledge, progress and understanding, whilst for older pupils, there has been a need to provide evidence to examination boards to secure grades and guarantee appropriate progression routes. In this context, we ask what role can classroom-based assessment play in supporting cognitively challenging learning and should we rethink assessment and its position in the learning process?

In this session, The Brilliant Club will be joined by Dr Ann McCarthy, Research and Development Director at NACE, to discuss different types of assessment and the context in which they are used, how assessment can improve teaching and metacognition as well as sharing practical examples of assessment as learning from NACE member schools*.
