Asset-Based Community Development and Community Building Practice
Monday, 7 November 2016 from 10:00 to 16:00 (GMT)
In this workshop we will introduce you to community building practice, which lies at the heart of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD). You will discover tools and techniques that local people can use to discover the hidden skills and strengths in their own community. We will also explore how those local assets can be connected together to build safer, healthier and more inclusive communities. You’ll also hear stories of how people across Gloucestershire are developing their practice in ABCD, enabling friends and neighbours to get together to do the things they love, and make a difference to where they live.
By the end of this workshop you will have:
• Gained knowledge about community building practice
• Identified actions that you can personally take to develop your community building practice
• More confidence to talk about examples of ABCD in action
This workshop is delivered by ABCD enthusiasts from across Gloucestershire. Course content has been developed with the support of Cormac Russell, Managing Director of Nurture Development, and faculty member of the ABCD Institute (www.nurturedevelopment.org).
After attending this workshop you will be invited to join an action learning set.
Lunch is also provided at this workshop.
If you have a physical disability or mental health challenge and living in Gloucestershire on a low income, you may be able to apply for help with your travel costs. Please contact us to discuss your situation.
You will be pleased to know that all our workshops are offered free of charge, however if you do book a place and find that you are unable to attend the event we will ask for a cancellation fee of £15.

You're Welcome Workshops
Barnwood Trust has a programme of community building called You’re Welcome. It’s all about creating more welcoming and inclusive communities across Gloucestershire to help people do the things they enjoy, and get to know more people where they live. You’re Welcome is for everyone, from all walks of life, and that includes people for whom life can sometimes be tricky.
At the heart of You’re Welcome are our free workshops which offer fun and inspiring experiences to support you to grow more welcoming and inclusive communities. You’re invited to join us for one or a series of workshops which are all designed to enable you and the people you live among to get better connected. The workshops are open to everyone living and working in Gloucestershire, and are offered free of charge. If after reading through the programme you can’t find what you’re looking for then please give us a call to discuss your interests.
