Event description
A meeting to discuss whether Assisted Dying should be made legal in the UK

About this Event

Assisted dying, with strong safeguards, has been legal for the past 22 years in the US state of Oregon and it has been suggested the UK might adopt similar procedures.

84% of people in the UK think that it would be right for those suffering terribly in their last few weeks to have the option of a medically assisted death.

However, some people are worried that if assisted dying were legalised, unscrupulous relatives could take advantage and pressurise a dying patient to end his or her life earlier than would happen naturally.

Others believe that the time of our death is not for us to determine.

During this conference, we will hear from speakers with differing views on this important and topical issue. We will also have the opportunity to ask questions and to express our own opinions in group discussions as well as in the concluding plenary.
