This conference is only open to senior employees and officials of associations and other member organisations. 

Association Leaders’ Forum: Leadership, the role of disruption and how to improve underperforming teams

WHAT TO EXPECT:

In the morning the group will focus on disruptive leadership and how to survive it. Anne Godfrey, Chief Executive, CIEH has had good and bad experiences of what she refers to as transformational leadership.

She will share her experiences in her last three roles and then as a group we will devote time to working through techniques to avoid failure. After lunch the group will focus on how to work with an underperforming or dysfunctional team, building plans based on the collective experience to overcome current challenges that you, as a group of leaders are facing.

The Association Leaders’ Forum is a safe environment where you can have confidential conversations, talk openly about your experiences and work with other leaders to drive your own and other associations forward

As Executive Director of AAE Damian has worked with Associations for over 15 years. In his introduction, Damian will give us his thoughts and opinions on where Associations are going next and importantly where Leaders should be looking to.

Paul Taylor and Andy Burman are both very experienced Association Leaders, and their introduction will give an insight into their experience of Leadership and what they see the role of leadership to be.

Anne has a wealth of experiences as a transformational leader, not always positive. During this candid presentation she will outline her past three experiences demonstrating clear lessons learnt and clear guidelines for other Chief Executives embarking on change.

The Association Leaders’ Forums are contributory, interactive, and combine group discussions and peer-to-peer collaboration, questions and answers. This time is to focus on core areas of importance to delegates. It is a mix of challenge-share, discussion, calling out and replication. The process is designed for delegates to leave with solutions to their existing challenges.

13:30 From Good to Great: Improving the performance and function of your leadership team.
This session is designed to enable you to learn from the collective experience around you. The focus will be on understanding the challenges of an underperforming team or team member, what to do to remove these barriers and how to develop a strategy to build a high performing team that delivers outstanding results. 
During the afternoon we will look at how to:
  • Build trust in and amongst your leadership team
  • Handle conflict within your team
  • Obtain commitment from your team
  • Make your team accountable
  • Focus on the results that matter
You will leave with a one-page business plan, which will help you to capture the key takeaways for implementation on your association.
