Where is the Astrocampus?

Is there free parking?

Yes, parking is available and is free after 6pm.  All car parks can be seen on the campus map: https://www.york.ac.uk/map/ We recommend parking in the Campus South car park (YO10 5NJ).

Can I cycle to the Astrocampus?

Yes, there are bike racks on the Astrocampus that you are welcome to use.

How do I get to the Astrocampus by public transport?

We offer a family friendly session, 6.30-7.30pm which is suitable for families with children aged 5+.

Do events go ahead if it's rainy/cloudy?

Events go ahead whatever the weather and we modify the activities based on conditions on the night.

What should I wear?

You will be outside for at least part of the evening, so please dress for the weather.  Wear warm layers if it's cold and bring an umbrella/waterproof if it's raining.  There are graveled paths between the buildings, so you shouldn't get muddy. However, we recommend flat shoes.

Is the Astrocampus wheelchair accessible?

The site and most of the buildings are wheelchair accessible.  However, the main dome, which includes the telescope, is not.  Please email us in advance if you require wheelchair access (astrocampus@york.ac.uk) so we can ensure ramps are in place in advance of your arrival.

Can I book for a group to attend an observing evening?

If you would like to make a group booking (eg for Scouting/Guiding groups or special interest groups such as WI or U3A), please email astrocampus@york.ac.uk.

What should I do if I can no longer attend an event?

Accepted Answer

The Astrocampus is a small site and events are frequently fully booked.  Therefore please cancel any tickets (though Eventbrite or by emailing astrocampus@york.ac.uk) with as much notice as possible to allow others to book the places.
