Pyramids, Photography and Pseudoscience

In 1865 Charles Piazzi Smyth, the long-serving second Astronomer Royal for Scotland, conducted a survey of the Great Pyramid. This talk will examine the background, execution and reception of this survey and explain how it indirectly lead to the founding of the modern discipline of Egyptology.
