Event description

Description

FREE, booking essential, excludes Museum admission.

Suitable for all abilities, no prior musical training is needed.

Discover the hidden world of private music-making in Georgian Britain through this workshop on music in Jane Austen's life. We will explore the Austen family's music books and their contents, learning about how they were assembled and considering the connections between music and home in the 18th century. Discussion of the music Austen performed herself, live performance (including some opportunities for you to contribute) and practical experimentation will bring the repertoire to life.

Led by Professor Jeanice Brooks of the Department of Music at the University of Southampton. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
