At the heart of this recital dedicated to Remembrance are Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs, composed in the aftermath of the Second World War and often hailed amongst te most moving and beautiful works in the vocal repertoire. These elegiac songs are paired with music by Karl Amadeus Hartmann, one of the few German composers to openly resist the Nazi regime whilst remaining in Germany during the war. His compositions embody both protest and profound commemoration of humanity. The recital also includes works of lament and memory by Arnold Schoenberg, Franz Liszt, Johann Sebastian Bach and Henry Purcell.
Soprano Sofia Kirwan-Baez and pianist Darius Latham-Koenig invite audiences to reflect and remember in the serene atmosphere of St. Paul's Church, Knightsbridge.
This recital is presented in conjunction with the SSAFA (Armed Forces Charity), commemorating 140 years of support for the United Kingdom's Armed Forces community.
Refreshments will be served during the interval and after the concert.
