Event description

Description

This production contains some strong language.

It is easy to assume that after the 11th of November 1918, everyone left the battlefields and returned home. However, this was not the case. For many soldiers, four years of trauma and bloodshed meant that returning home did not end their suffering. Injured soldiers were stared at; some found it impossible to shake off the effects of a new style of warfare on their mental state and many sadly found this too much to bear.'At The Going Down Of The Sun' focuses on a fictional family business in Somerset, as they live through the years during and after the First World War. It focuses on developments in society, and the limits of understanding at that time, whilst reminding us to remember what happened a hundred years ago.

Black Hound Productions was created in 2016 by a group of young performers and theatre makers following a production of 'The Hound Of The Baskervilles' at the egg theatre in Bath. They first performed an original short piece called 'Rose' at Royal High School, Bath in November 2016, about the Easter Rising in Dublin. Since then they have created a short film, '306', and most recently another play, 'Saviour By The Amethyst', which was very well received. The group is made up of local people of all ages, but the majority of these are aged between 16 and 21, and still within education. We aim to create visually exciting, visceral and interesting theatre which everyone can enjoy. This new production is presented with the support of Radstock Museum, and has been created for this specific space. We are looking forward to showing you what we have created for this unique venue.
