At The Table with // Wrth y Bwrdd gyda - Kameelah Janan Rasheed

Presented in partnership with British Council, Artes Mundi presents the second of six free At The Table talks series for AM11.

Kameelah Janan Rasheed will be in conversation with Amaka Obioma, an artist and curator who’s practice explores the intersection of interanimacy and performance, spirituality, and syncretic systems through a poststructuralist lens, and Anushiye Yarnell an interdisciplinary performance artist whose work spans movement, sound, voice, text, drawing and participatory alternative pedagogies.

The At The Table series brings together the voices of the six AM11 artists alongside those of international curators, artists, historians, thinkers and writers in a series of roundtable discussions. The talks will centre on themes and ideas present in the artist’s work and the interwoven relationship between histories and practices, locally to internationally.

Imagining we are sitting around a table sharing conversation and exchanging ideas, this event is a chance to hear different concerns and perspectives while getting to know the artist and their work.

The talk will be interpreted in BSL and live captions will be provided.

Kameelah Janan Rasheed explores the poetics, politics, and pleasures of communication through her multidisciplinary practice involving the speculative relationships between written language, surrogacy, and desire. Her work spans immersive installations, public art, publications, performances, and video, with a focus on language as material and immaterial. Recent projects investigate reading and writing as transgressive, erotic acts of ingestion, immersion, enmeshment, and estrangement.

Amaka Obioma is a Performance & Multimedia Artist and Curator based in Ibadan. Her practice explores the intersection of interanimacy and performance, spirituality, and syncretic systems through a poststructuralist lens. She works to bridge subjective and objective realities within her art. Working across multimedia art, performance, and artistic research, Amaka fuses people, materials, and ideas into new forms of communication. Her work is deeply collaborative and community-focused, viewing this engagement as essential to creating site-specific and contextually resonant projects. She is a founding member of the collective Tantdile Xperimenta Lab, which collaborates with the public to co-create discussions on social issues through art

Anushiye Yarnell is an interdisciplinary performance artist whose work spans movement, sound, voice, text, drawing, participatory alternative pedagogies. Her work culminates, celebrates, congregates through symbiotic, anti-segregative ways of being, examining the intersections of dream and fantasy realms within ordinary life, finding connections between day-to-day experiences of the world and anthropological, philosophical, poetic, and artistic frameworks. She works with tactile presence, reviving sensual intelligence through temporal, ongoing bodies-biographies-mythologies, attempting regeneration despite rifts and ruptures imposed by colonial civilisation. Her works generate habitats & continuums of personal, interpersonal & participatory practice amplifying the dexterity, sensory receptivity, connective intricacies within cellular presence.

Daw’r gyfres ‘Wrth y Bwrdd/At The Table’ â lleisiau chwech o’r artistiaid AM11 at ei gilydd ochr yn ochr â churaduron, artistiaid, haneswyr, meddylwyr ac awduron rhyngwladol mewn cyfres o drafodaethau bord gron. Bydd y sgyrsiau’n canolbwyntio ar themâu a syniadau sy’n bresennol yng ngwaith yr artist a’r berthynas gyd-gysylltiedig rhwng hanes ac arferion, yn lleol ac yn rhyngwladol.

Dychmygwch ein bod yn eistedd o amgylch bwrdd yn rhannu sgwrs ac yn cyfnewid syniadau, mae’r digwyddiad hwn yn gyfle i glywed gwahanol bryderon a safbwyntiau wrth ddod i adnabod yr artist a’u gwaith.

Bydd y sgwrs yn cael ei dehongli mewn BSL a bydd capsiynau byw ar gael.

Mae Kameelah Janan Rasheed yn archwilio barddas, gwleidyddiaeth a phleserau cyfathrebu drwy ei harfer amlddisgyblaethol sy’n ymwneud â’r perthnasoedd synfyfyriol rhwng iaith ysgrifenedig, benthyg croth, a chwant. Mae ei gwaith yn rhychwantu gosodiadau trochol, celf gyhoeddus, cyhoeddiadau, perfformiadau, a fideo, gan ganolbwyntio ar iaith fel rhywbeth perthnasol ac amherthnasol. Mae ei gwaith yn archwilio’r croestoriad rhwng rhyngfywiogi a pherfformiad, ysbrydolrwydd a systemau syncretig drwy lens ôl-strwythurol. Mae hi’n ceisio defnyddio ei chelf i bontio'r bwlch rhwng realiti goddrychol a realiti gwrthrychol. Mae Amaka yn gweithio ym maes celfyddyd amlgyfrwng, perfformio ac ymchwil artistig, ac yn cyfuno pobl, deunyddiau a syniadau i greu ffyrdd newydd o gyfathrebu. Mae ei gwaith yn cynnwys llawer o gydweithio ac yn canolbwyntio ar y gymuned. Ei chred hi yw bod ymgysylltu yn hanfodol i greu prosiectau am leoedd penodol sy’n berthnasol i'r cyd-destun. Mae hi’n un o sylfaenwyr Tantdile Xperimenta Lab, sy’n rhoi cyfle i bobl gydweithio â'r cyhoedd i gynnal trafodaethau am faterion cymdeithasol drwy gyfrwng celf

Mae Anushiye Yarnell yn artist perfformio rhyngddisgyblaethol, ac mae ei gwaith yn canolbwyntio ar symudiad, sain, llais, testun, lluniau ac addysgeg gyfranogol amgen. Mae ei gwaith yn arwain, yn dathlu ac yn denu drwy arbrofi â ffyrdd symbiotig a gwrth-wahaniaethol o fodoli, gan archwilio’r croestoriad rhwng ffiniau breuddwyd a ffantasi mewn bywyd bob dydd, a chanfod cysylltiadau rhwng profiadau cyffredin â fframweithiau anthropolegol, athronyddol, barddonol ac artistig. Mae hi’n gweithio â phresenoldeb cyffyrddol, gan adfywio deallusrwydd synhwyraidd drwy fytholeg cyrff a bywgraffiadau amserol a pharhaus, gan geisio adfywio, er gwaetha’r rhwygiadau a achoswyd gan wareiddiad trefedigaethol.
