Event description
Experimental synth making and group composition workshops with Loula Yorke. Includes performance.

About this Event

Together we’ll learn to solder safely and build a little noise instrument for you to keep, as well as introducing the basics of sound synthesis (13:30 - 15:00). We'll then collaborate to create a composition using our new instruments (15:30 - 17:00), before finally re-grouping in the evening to perform our short piece in front of an audience at Plink Plonk (19:00).

This is a female-led workshop designed to encourage girls’ confidence and participation in STEM activities and foster an interest in creating electronic music, two fields in which women are currently hugely under-represented.

Please note that it is expected that participants attending the workshop are able to participate in the group performance at 19:00 (and are free to enjoy the rest of the evening, although not compulsory)

Loula Yorke is a live artist and noise-maker whose time-based practice dances in the spaces where techno meets leftism. Her primary instrument is a modular synthesiser housed in a roughly-hewn hunk of log.

As one half of TR-33N, Loula has performed live at Glastonbury Festival and Boomtown, and had collaborative work broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

Pronounced like a whisper, her debut solo album ysmysmysm is out now on Junted, Detroit.
