ATLEU Training: Accommodation & support rights for survivors of trafficking

Accommodation and support for survivors of trafficking with Hannah Khalifah and Beth Mullan Feroze

Housing and support is fundamental to recovery, and support and legal professionals play a vital role in ensuring a survivor's needs are met. This training will help you understand an individual's rights and entitlements and navigate how best to advocate for your clients in securing support and accommodation.

The session will provide an overview of the housing options available to survivors of trafficking and how best to navigate each avenue to secure suitable housing. Although there will be a focus on accommodation, we will also look at the different support entitlements available to survivors under the Modern Slavery Victim Care Contract (MSVCC).

In this session we will discuss accommodation and support for survivors of modern slavery, covering the following:

  • Legal duties to provide accommodation and support to survivors
  • What support and accommodation is available to survivors at each stage under the NRM, as provided by the Modern Slavery Victim Care Contract (MSVCC), including through the recovery needs assessment and reach in processes
  • How to seek re-entry into NRM support provided by the MSVCC
  • Entitlements under asylum support and the impact that this has for those in the NRM
  • Accommodation and support that is available for survivors in police custody, prison, detention centres
  • An introduction to support and housing available from the local authority including homelessness applications
  • Legal duties under the Housing Act 1996

There will also be opportunity for a group discussion using a case example.

This training will be useful for both experienced and less experienced support professionals, legal advisors and legal representatives with a medium level of knowledge.
