ATLEU Training: Safeguarding for Survivors of Trafficking & Modern Slavery

Safeguarding Survivors of Modern Slavery with Carita Thomas and Beth Mullan Feroze

For support professionals and legal advisors working with survivors, the need to safeguard survivors is a key consideration and taking steps to prevent further exploitation is an important area of practice. This training will provide an introduction to safeguarding best practice and offer a space to start thinking about what to do when working with survivors in the context of human trafficking and modern slavery.

The session will include:

  • An overview of the principles that underpin safeguarding duties
  • Types of safeguarding issues and possible next steps
  • Tips on trauma informed working, including building trusting relationships with survivors
  • How to identify risk of re-trafficking and steps to take if survivors go missing
  • Practical steps that support and legal professionals and authorities can take to reduce the risk of burnout and vicarious trauma, particularly when safeguarding incidents arise

There will be opportunities for practical discussion of some safeguarding issues that may arise when working with survivors.

Our goal is that you will walk away from the training with increased knowledge about what safeguarding is, an introduction to trauma informed work, and a more active awareness of situations that can raise safeguarding concerns, including when survivors go missing.

The training is aimed at support and legal professionals who are new to working with survivors, or have a medium level of experience when working with survivors and would like to refresh some basic knowledge.

This training is part of a series of six sessions specifically designed for legal advisors and support professionals working with survivors of trafficking and modern slavery.

Prices per session, per person, plus a booking fee, are as follows:
