About this event

Atma Laya is a Bharatanatyam solo that traces the seeker’s journey through the many facets of the divine. Rooted in tradition yet resonant with contemporary thought, it explores creation, sustenance, and dissolution through layered emotions - devotion, surrender, love, even sarcasm.Structured in the Margam format, the work reflects on the evolving and diverse relationship between the soul and the sacred, suggesting that there is no singular way to reach the truth. With rare compositions and nuanced Abhinaya, Atma Laya offers a rich, contemplative experience of rhythm, emotion, and ultimate stillness.

Shreema Upadhyaya is a Bharatanatyam artist and actor from Bengaluru, trained under Sri P Praveen Kumar for over two decades. A Doordarshan graded artist and a recipient of the

Government of India’s Young Artist Scholarship, she has performed on prestigious stages including the Music Academy, Madras. Her repertoire includes solo traditional Margams, and thematic works such as ‘Degula’ and ‘Durga’, and global collaborations such as Padmasri Malavika Sarukkai’s Thari, and currently the Akram Khan Company’s Thikra. In film, she appears in ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’ and ‘Por’, made by award winning directors. Shreema strives to uphold classical dance as a compelling form of artistic and narrative expression.
