Description:

Exposure to traumatic events increases the risks of mental health difficulties and can trigger trauma.
We are providing an introduction to trauma and attachment and offering practical applications of positive behaviour support for wounded children and young people. Our event is targeted to professionals working with children and young people.

Aim:

Building capacity to understand and react to behaviours triggered by trauma and adverse childhood experiences

Objectives:
Participants will -

•Understand phases of trauma processing on the brain

•Define attachment styles in children

•Confirm research based strategies for support

•Focus on Positive Behaviour Support strategies aplicable in daily life

Dr Nicola Wylie BSc, MSc, D.Foren.Psy, CPsychol, AFBPsS, CSAccred.(ACC)

Dr. Wylie is a Chartered Psychologist with international registration as a practitioner psychologist. She has worked with vulnerable and high-risk adults and young people for over 10 years across England and Scotland. Her experience includes working with young people in one of Scotland’s Secure Care providers and with adult in-patients in high secure and low secure hospitals as well as supporting adults, children and their families in the community.

In addition to clinical skills, Dr. Wylie has designed and delivered a number of training packages for Local Authorities, Universities and care and education providers. She works as an Associate Professor at one of the UKs leading Universities and has presented research at three national conferences in the area of female offending. She has been a co-author and subcommittee member with the National Offender Treatment Agency (NOTA) entitled ‘preventing sexual abuse and violence with young people’ and more recently a study on Adverse Childhood Experiences and strengths.


Tina Patterson, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA

Mrs. Patterson is a Licensed Behaviour Analyst, who has been working with individuals and communities for the past 25 years. Her accreditation as Board Certified Behavior Analyst has provided her with the opportunity to serve clients both nationally and internationally. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education from Vanderbilt University, she began working with individuals of all ages and abilities in schools and community programs. As a graduate student at Vanderbilt University, she focused in the areas of education and beaviour, and published several research studies on Learning and Behaviour. Over the past two decades, she has guided both public and private organizations and government agencies with the implementation of research-based programs to improve individual outcomes.

Mrs. Patterson writes curriculum, intervention procedures, and designs and delivers workshops in the areas of behaviour management, academic achievement, developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, trauma-informed care and mental health. In addition, she has integrated organizational goals with performance management techniques in order to measure progress in the areas of quality improvement, management productivity and collaborative working environments.
