Event description

Description

Mindsite is partnering with the International Attachment Network to bring a number of unique and special events to Stockport. This is our first collaboration, and it will feature two pre-eminent researchers and therapists from the field of attachment theory. Dr Sonia Gojman de Millán and Dr Salvador Millán will describe the main attachment research tools and show their relevance to clinicians and practitioners.

The workshop presenters write 'We plan to start with a brief summary of John Bowlby’s original attachment theory as a basic background. Then we will describe the Infant Attachment categories of Mary Ainsworth; including the Strange Situation Procedure, and the subsequent links to the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI). The scales for coding and classifying AAI transcripts will be covered as well as the main classification categories.

The introduction will be supported with a power point presentation illustrating the most important aspects, which will be developed verbally. Participants can ask “burning questions” as they go along.

We then want participants to share a brief experience using some of the questions from the AAI so they can vividly appreciate some of its coding procedures. Because of its particular importance to clinicians, we will present some examples of resolved and unresolved loss and trauma as seen through the AAI.

We will illustrate the points made with video taped excerpts of the Mary Ainsworth Strange Situation Procedure. These will include the four infants’ patterns of attachment: Secure, Avoidant, Resistant-Ambivalent and Disorganized.

If appropriate , we will also include a brief description of our Attachment and Social Character Research in Urban and Rural Mexico.'
