TCC Annual Conference 2018 with Graham Music & Jeremy Holmes

After nearly 50 years of attachment studies, what are the key lessons for therapeutic work and professional practice? These talks will place classic attachment ideas alongside the most up-to-date neurobiological findings, drawing together the implications of contemporary research for working with trauma and neglect, including:

  • What the most up-to-date findings from neurobiological research tell us about the impact of trauma and neglect

  • How these findings relate to classic attachment theory

  • The central lessons for therapeutic practice

  • The implications of contemporary developmental psychology and brain research for therapeutic technique?

  • The role of body-awareness in psychotherapy


About Graham Music


Graham Music

Graham Music is a Consultant Child Psychotherapist and Associate Clinical Director at the Tavistock Clinic in London . His main clinical interests are in developing services in community settings such as schools, and in working with children who are Looked after or adopted, and the adults in their lives. He teaches on many courses and trainings in Britain, and abroad, is on the editorial board of the child psychotherapy journal and has published particularly on the interface of developmental research and therapeutic practice. He is also an adult psychotherapist working in private practice.

His publications include books such as Nurturing Natures: Attachment and Children's Emotional, Social and Brain Development (2016) and The Good Life: Wellbeing and the new science of Altruism, Selfishness and Immorality (2014).

Jeremy Holmes

Professor Jeremy Holmes is a psychiatrist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist. For 35 years he worked as Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist in the NHS, providing a district psychotherapy service in North Devon, focussing especially on people with Borderline Personality Disorder. He was Chair of the Psychotherapy Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists 1998-2002.Now partially retired, he has a small private practice; set up and co-runs a Masters and Doctoral psychoanalytic psychotherapy training programme at Exeter University, where he is visiting Professor; and lectures nationally and internationally.

His publications include the book John Bowlby and Attachment Theory (1992), and the Oxford Textbook of Psychotherapy (2005, co-edited with Glen Gabbard and Judy Beck) and Exploring In Security: Towards an Attachment-informed Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (Routledge 2010). He was recipient of the 2009 New York Attachment Consortium Bowlby-Ainsworth Founders Award.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The Spa Hotel, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, is located close to the border of West Kent and East Sussex, providing easy access to the A21 and the M25 and is well placed for traveling in any direction. Tunbridge Wells mainline train station is a short walk or quick taxi ride away and links to London are frequent.
