About this event

Based on the theme of First Day or First Meeting, the Jackie Kaye poem ‘Keeping Orchids’ will be used for initial inspiration, with participants guided to write a short poem using all their senses to describe an emotion. Ann will then lead a session on writing a poem together about a first meeting. There will be the opportunity to read out and discuss what has been written at the workshop. This taster workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced poets.

Ann MacKinnon writes in both Scots and English. Her works are widely published and she was nominated for the Scots Writer of the Year in 2022. She enjoys performing, running workshops and giving talks. She is cofounder of Balloch Open Mic. and is Makar for the Federation of Writers, Scotland, for 2025.

No experience necessary and all materials provided. Minimum age 14. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult who does not need a separate ticket unless they wish to participate in the workshop. The event is free, guests can make a donation towards the Auchterarder Picturehouse Charity at the event. Refreshments available.
