A one day workshop for museum employees, Trustees and volunteers seeking an introduction to the Arts Council Accreditation requirements for audience research, consultation and evaluation. The session will also be suitable for those interested in audience consultation, research and evaluation more widely. Participants will be able to share their current experiences in this area with the rest of the group and participate in pair and small group work with plenty of time for discussion and questions. Handouts and web-links will be provided for participants who want to read further on the subject.
Expected learning outcomes
By the end of the workshop you will:
- have a better understanding of the Arts Council Accreditation requirement for audience research, consultation and evaluation
- have a better understanding of what your organisation needs to do to meet these requirements
- have a better understanding of how to plan audience research and evaluation
- have found out which tools are available and how to use them
Trainer: Nicky Boyd
Nicky is an experienced audience research and evaluation consultant with expertise in qualitative evaluation, techniques and processes, audience development and visitor studies. Her clients include local authority, independent and national museums, galleries, libraries and archives, heritage and environmental organisations. She has a background in collecting evidence from a wide range of audiences using a variety of data gathering tools (including focus groups, one-to-one interviews, feedback forms, personal meaning mapping, accompanied visits and observation). She regularly trains museum and heritage staff (including volunteers) in these research techniques at all levels. She was Chair of the Visitor Studies Group from 2006-2008 and is currently a committee member of the London Museums Group. She is a member of the Visitor Studies Group and the Museums Association. Previously Nicky was Manager of the Livesey Museum for Children and Special Exhibitions Project Manager at the Museum of the Moving Image.

This event is free of charge for trustees, volunteers or staff from museums in Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton.
