Description

Open audition for a new film project at FACT

Have you always dreamed of being in a film? FACT is holding auditions for a new experimental film project, Affective Cinema, to be screened at the venue in August.

Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to come to a short audition at FACT from 14 to 16 May. Prior film or acting experience is not a requirement.

The audition will involve a simple interview for the camera, and a part of it will be used in the final film. You will also be considered for a role in a wider, seven day filming process. The payment for the wider, main filming is £60 a day. If you’re selected for the main film you’ll be coached and instructed on what to do, so you won’t need to prepare anything for the audition, just be yourself!

Affective Cinema is an experimental film project to be screened at FACT in August. A series of short, atmospheric films in the art-cinema style, it is designed to explore the potential of film to show an intimate view of the world and create a sense of what’s called “affective meaning”; that is a meaning that is felt before it can be thought. The resulting films don’t tell a story, instead they offer a glimpse of the world, of individual experience and emotion.

The filmmaker is Pavel Prokopic, who began working on this project in 2015 as part of his AHRC-funded practice based PhD at the University of Salford. Inspired by the subtle moments of cinema in the work of directors like Tarkovsky, Bergman, Antonioni or Kieslowski, he is exploring the potential of film to communicate and connect with the audience beyond meaning and language and instead creating a feeling of meaning.

There is a cinematic style that adds to this, and Pavel is experimenting with how these moments can be captured and using them as the structure of a film, in place of the story or narrative.

This is a project about discovery, creativity and the exploration of film and cinema. Pavel has been working towards a six month residency at FACT and this represents the final part of his project.
