Event description

Description

Hello and welcome to the signup page for Augmented Reality at the Museum. This is a research project exploring the use of Augmented Reality at the National Museum in Cardiff.

Before you decide to take part, it is important you understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. The project aims to investigate how visitors experience National Museums Wales through augmented reality (AR). We are also interested in how your experience affects your body.

Who can take part?
Anyone over the age of 16 is eligible to take part. Unfortunately, this research cannot include anyone under 16.

What will happen to me if I take part?
We will meet you in the foyer of the museum. There you will be fitted you with a wristband that tracks your heart rate and a form of electrical skin response. We'll give you an augmented reality handset and together we will explore the museum. Afterwards, you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire. We estimate your visit will take between 60 - 90 minutes. You will have the option to agree to a follow-up interview to find out more about your experience.

What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?
Participating in the research is not anticipated to cause you any disadvantages or discomfort.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?
Whilst there are no immediate benefits for those people participating in the project, it is hoped that this work will have a beneficial impact on how National Museums Wales understands visitors. The experience normally costs £10; you will be able to try it out for free in return for your participation in the research.

Will my taking part in this project be kept confidential?
All the information that we collect about you during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential. You will not be able to be identified or identifiable in any reports or publications. Any data collected in the questionnaire will be stored securely.

What will happen to the results of the research project?
Results of the research may be published. You will not be identified in any report or publication. If you wish to be given a copy of any reports resulting from the research, please ask us to put you on our circulation list.

Who has ethically reviewed the project?
This project has been ethically approved by the Cardiff University’s School of Social Sciences ethics review procedure and subsequently endorsed by the ethics procedures of National Museums Wales.
