Event description

Description

Since the crisis hit in 2008, Greece has played host to a cultural renaissance. In Austerity Measures, the very best of the writing to emerge from that creative ferment is gathered for the first time, featuring poems written by native Greeks, emigres and migrants alike. Karen Van Dyck, the editor and translator of the book, will be joined by Maria Margaronis, London based journalist, Greek poets Yiannis Efthymiades and Elena Penga and Professor Roderick Beaton, King's College London for an evening of poetry and discussion.

"A new group of poets is changing the arts landscape in Greece. Fearless, global and with an artistic fervour unseen since the dictatorship, they tell us their hopes, the culture that excites them – and the Greek myths they’d like to debunk .” The Guardian, 11/5/16

''Along with the mass unemployment and the rise of neo-Nazism that it engendered, austerity also occasioned a cultural renaissance. This volume is ... living proof that the Greek crisis is of global significance.” Yanis Varufakis
