Event description

Description

At relatively short notice, an opportunity has arisen to hear from Professor Joanne Evans, Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University, Australia. Professor Evans has been leading on the "Rights in Records By Design" project which seeks to address the recommendations of the Australian Royal Commission on historic child abuse. With respect to records and record keeping practice, the Royal Commission noted that

* 'problems in access have not been overcome by reforms in response to recommendations of earlier inquiries'
* 'the creation and management of accurate records are systemic and enduring problems.

Professor Evans will share the conclusions from their National Summit in May 2017 and support the consideration of the recommendations relating to Child Safe Standards and Records and Record Keeping Principles in the Scottish context.

We are also pleased to advise that Professor Andrew Kendrick, University of Strathclyde, will provide a short input regarding the Scottish context.

For local authority members, it may be helpful to take along the appropriate records manager (or equivalent) within your council to this seminar.

We look forward to seeing you there.
