On this super fun and interesting evening we welcome not one, but two new-wave Austrian winemakers to SWH to showcase their exciting wines. We'll discover a tasty line-up including some orange wines.
Arnold Holzer took over winemaking duties at the family vineyard from his father aged just twenty-two, and together with his brother Mathias form the fourth generation of Holzers to farm this 13-hectare vineyard brimming with native Austrian grapes in the heart of Wagram. From lovable Gruner Veltliner and Zweigelt with craft beer-esque new labels, to stunning single-vineyard bottlings including the obscure Wagram speciality Roter Veltliner, the Holzer brothers are at the cutting edge of the exciting new wine scene in Austria.
The Diwald family farm has been a pioneer of organic viticulture in Austria since 1980. Second generation winemaker Martin Diwald makes small-scale, razor sharp, classic Grüner Veltliner and Riesling (as well as some magisterial but tiny quantity orange Grüner, called Zündstoff) in a winery next door to his good friend and contemporary Arnold Holzer. Martin interferes as little as possible in the cellar, deploying intuition, patience and a boundless love for what he does.
