Join the LBC and author Kate Manne to discuss her timely and brilliant book, Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny.

About this Event

“Sexism wears a lab coat; misogyny goes on witch hunts.”

Down Girl: The Logic of Misogyny was our selected contemporary title for October, and we are thrilled to be hosting a discussion on this timely and brilliant work with author, Kate Manne.

In this book, Kate offers a crucial framework for understanding misogyny and how it works. Rather than treating it at the individual level, this book compellingly shows that misogyny is a ‘social and political phenomenon with psychological, structural, and institutional manifestations’.

Join us to explore the relation between sexism and misogyny, why misogyny persists today and how a better conceptual understanding of it might help us combat its pervasiveness.

Kate Manne is an assistant professor of philosophy at Cornell University, having previously been a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows. She works in moral, social, and feminist philosophy and her articles have appeared in the New York Times, The Times Literary Supplement and the Huffington Post.
