Join local author and songwriter Martin Russell for the launch of his brand-new novella Heronsburgh 1965, a witty and heartfelt story inspired by Helensburgh in the 1960s.
The event will be introduced by acclaimed writer and mental health advocate Graham Morgan.
Heronsburgh 1965 began as Martin’s song Helensburgh Men, about the mild-mannered shopkeepers of the town in the 1960s. The book takes that idea further as a work of fiction, filled with humour, warmth, and the theme of redemption – how people can change for the better, forgive, and move on.
Martin, who has lived experience of bipolar disorder, has woven an inspiring mental health storyline throughout the novella. The book also features a striking cover adapted from a 1941 LNER poster by Frank H. Mason, used with permission from the Science Museum, London.
