Event description

Description

Join Bloomsbury author Tim Pears, in a talk with literary editor Alex Clark, on writing The Horseman, his first in a dazzling new historical trilogy.

Tim Pears, prize-winning author of In the Place of Fallen Leaves, has created a Hardyesque pastoral novel set in Devon, 1911, about an unlikely friendship between two children, Leo Sercombe, a carter’s son, and Lottie Prideaux, daughter of the Master of the estate. Hallucinatory, beautiful and suffused with the magic of nature, it is the first in a dazzling new trilogy.

“The pleasure of it lies in taking in the language and the setting - the West country, in 1911 and 1912 - and in reading it like a long poem, with each chapter a stanza ... The natural world is sometimes antagonistic, sometimes beautiful, but always alive with detail” – Jane Smiley, Guardian
