Authors in the Crypt: With Zoë Richards includes a talk by author Zoë Richards which follows a two-course summer meal created by Checks & Greys.

About Zoë Richards

Zoë Richards worked for the NHS as an improvement programme manager, reforming how children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities are supported in healthcare. She is now a Mindset Coach and still works as a consultant in health and care transformation. Her twice-weekly podcast ‘Write, Damn It!’ launched in early 2023 and has already attracted a range of well-known authors. Writing gives her an escape from the intensity of work and caring for her husband who has MS.

She lives in Southport, has been married to Rob for 35 years, and they have a grown-up daughter, a baby granddaughter and a cockapoo who will never grow up.

About Her Books

Zoe’s debut novel ‘Garden of Her Heart’ is a story of recovery, community and purpose through rescuing a kitchen garden at Pinewoods Retreat. When Holly Bush is made redundant with gardening leave after a brutal attack, she decides to visit a retreat. There, she finds friendship and a garden in need of love, she ends up doing literal gardening leave, bringing the community of guests together. Holly works on both her mental and physical scars and discovers an inner strength. Universally described as “a hug in a book”, “heartwarming”, and a “perfect holiday read”, Holly’s story sensitively covers themes of mental health and friendship.

As a suicide survivor, talking therapies didn’t work for her, so in writing Garden of Her Heart, Zoë wanted to show how there are other ways we can manage our recovery in a way that works best for us.

Her second novel, ‘Tell It to the Bees’ – a standalone sequel – is out in August 2025. With repairs to be done, rising costs, and not enough guests, owner Lorraine attempts to fix everything herself. Then, wealthy and successful businesswoman Georgie books herself in. And she isn’t there for relaxation. As everything that Lorraine has created starts to fall apart, Georgie sets out to deliver on the mission she’s been sent on by a ruthless local developer.
