About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

The sensory challenges of autism are often not recognised or are overlooked by the neurotypical world. It can be a very confusing place when you are struggling to understand yourself and your difficulties or if you are supporting someone with sensory issues.

We provide a safe, open space in which to explore, discuss and gain more knowledge about the eight senses. We will discuss how sensory challenges can affect the behaviour of autistic people and why, what strategies can be used to reduce the sensory environments affect on autistic people and what adjustments can be made to the environment to help with these difficulties.

Living with autism herself, our peer trainer will give lived experiences and discuss the barriers she has come up against, along with the strategies she has used to help herself overcome sensory challenges and the adjustments that can be asked for when out and about.

We aim to inspire hope by showing people that they are not alone and openly welcome service users, carers and staff to come along and learn more about the senses through the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Here at the Recovery College NHFT we offer you a range of different courses to help you support yourself and others to understand health conditions and help with recovery. Hope, control and opportunity are what we strive for and help our students to achieve.

Courses are designed to support you to take control of your own wellbeing, despite any health challenges you may have. They are produced and presented by a health professional and someone who has personally experienced their own health issues. Courses are related to mental health, physical health, as well as workshops on wellbeing and opportunities to become more involved in our community.

Who is this service for? Our courses are available for over 18’s who are NHFT current and previous service users, their family and friends, carers, members of partner organisations, and NHFT staff and are free to attend.

Please note- we have been experiencing issues with Eventbrite App bookings for our courses. Please use the website rather than the App as our courses may show as unavailable on the App even though they do have spaces
