Description

Following the success of our ASD packages and outreach work we are pleased to offer, for the second year running, our Autism Awareness Programme. The aims of the programme will be to help professionals sucessfully understand and support a child with Autism within a primary setting. Our three day programme explores Autism in theory, policy and practice. It also offers the unique opportunity for participants to experience this in a Primary School setting within our specialist unit (The Harbour).

Course Outline

19/04/2017

This session looks at the background of Autism. Current research, innovation, policy and strategies for working with children with ASD as well as:

  • Differentiation
  • Assessment
  • Sensory Integration
  • Pupil Voice

03/05/2017

This session looks at behaviour management for children with ASD and looks at practical strategies that can be used as a preventative measure in the classroom. It also covers:

  • Symbol Making
  • Communication Board Making
  • Differentiated Resources

Day 3 TBC

The last session will be on a convenient day for yourselves and the course leader. You will have the opportunity to see in practice, Foxfield Primary School's Autism Unit (The Harbour). You will also see:

  • Sensory Integration
  • PECS/Symbol Use
  • TEACCH Approach
  • Lego Therapy

This Programme is aimed at any professional working with children with ASD in a Primary setting.
