Learn about some of the most important parts of being an adult on the autistic spectrum

This event will look at some of the matters that affect autistic adults. We use a holistic approach - any strategy implemented is likely to have a significant and beneficial impact on the individual's life as a whole.

This event is a great opportunity to:

The Autism Act 2009 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The Act makes provision about the needs of autistic adults. Find out what it means and what your rights and opportunities are.

10:55 AM Talk 2: How to be a more effective communicator

Lots of people think they're good at communicating when really they're not! Being a good communicator is a valuable skill that all people can work on and improve throughout their life. Learn about body language and tone of voice. Learn how to improve and adapt communication to get the best out of the important people in your lives. This talk will cover adaptations people can make to the way they communicate, to better connect with the autistic person they know. It'll also give autistic people some ideas on the things they can do when communicating with other people too.

AFTERNOON SESSION

12:35PM Workshop: Managing at Work Part 1 plus Video: A Day Working at the Vet's for The Girl With The Curly Hair

Working is vital for independence. A lot of people enjoy working because they feel it gives them purpose and value. However, lots of autistic adults struggle finding a suitable job and then maintaining their job.

This workshop looks at why working can be difficult and the sorts of things you as an autistic adult can do yourself to make it more manageable, as well as realistic and reasonable ideas on what employers and colleagues can do to support you.
