Event description

Description

At this free event, Business East Sussex will be welcoming Kate Gorman and Heather Prescott from The Pensions Regulator, who will give you an overview of automatic enrolment (AE), how it affects your business and the duties employers need to be aware of.

The law on workplace pensions has changed. Whether you’re a hairdresser, an architect or you employ a nanny, if you employ just one person, then you are an employer and have 'duties' under pensions law. The duties you have will depend on your own circumstances as an employer and those of your staff. If you are planning on employing someone in the future, you need to know about your Automatic Enrolment duties.

Automatic enrolment means that you – along with every other employer across the UK – must put certain staff into a pension scheme and pay into it. So it’s important that you recognise what you need to do – and by when - in order to comply with the specific duties you have as an employer.

The Pensions Regulator enforces the law on workplace pensions but we also provide the information and guidance to help you meet your duties. We want to help employers and business owners who are looking to expand with their AE duties by providing information and support.

Since 2012 The Pensions Regulator has been communicating directly with employers about the enrolment duties. From the first of October 2017, if you’re expanding your business and thinking of taking someone on to help, you’ll need to sort out their workplace pension from the outset.
