Celebrate British Composers of the 20th & 21st Century
Audiences are invited to an unforgettable evening of music showcasing three of Britain’s most celebrated contemporary composers: Will Todd, Bob Chilcott, and John Rutter. This concert brings together works that highlight the extraordinary vitality and diversity of modern British choral writing.
Will Todd’s Jazz Missa Brevis is a joyful fusion of sacred text with the harmonies and rhythms of jazz. With its infectious energy, this setting of the Mass transforms the traditional liturgy into a dynamic and uplifting experience.
Bob Chilcott, a former member of The King’s Singers, has become one of the most performed choral composers of his generation. His A Little Jazz Mass combines the timeless words of the Mass with the playful syncopation of jazz. It is light in touch, yet full of colour, spirit, and invention.
Completing the programme is John Rutter’s Requiem, one of the most beloved choral works of recent decades. Written in 1985, it blends elements of the traditional Latin Requiem with English texts, creating a luminous, deeply moving meditation on life, death, and hope. With its lyrical melodies and radiant choral writing, it has touched audiences worldwide.
Together, these three works celebrate the continuing tradition of British choral music in the 20th and 21st centuries, offering audiences an evening that is at once spirited, reflective, and profoundly inspiring.
