This is a special launch of the Samaroh Festival at the Nehru Centre with performances by selected groups from the series. The Autumn Festival / Samaroh series explores the interrelationship between the spirituality in the musical, poetic and dance traditions from South Asia.
The programme will include artists who are specialists in the fields Sufi / Bhakti tradition and will include Vedic Chants, Dhrupad, Khayal, Thumri, Carnatic, Thumri & Qawwali genres of classical & semi-classical music from the subcontinent.
Th e festival is to be presented at the Logan Hall and will have ten main concerts divided into 14 sessions to show that traditional vocal forms from South Asia continue to be highly engaging, uplifting and spiritual in nature. Th ere will be a series of seminars to explore the long history of vocal traditions mentioned above whilst highlighting the spiritual, poetic and artistic aspects. These will feature scholars and distinguished speakers from the world of academia and broadcasting and music fraternities.
